Tactical armor clothing is the ideal choice for those who want to stay protected and comfortable, without anyone knowing that they are wearing a bulletproof vest.  Staying incognito will make any attacker underestimate you. This will allow you to use this tactical advantage either to save your own life or to protect the lives of others. And all of this will be without raising suspicion or looking like a dangerous target for perpetrators. While these clothes don’t have a lot of military applications outside of intelligence, they are a good tactical option for undercover police officers, as well as anyone working in dangerous jobs where they don’t want to stand out. There are four objective advantages when it comes to armored clothing:
  1. They are indistinguishable from casual clothes.
  2. They are light and comfortable.
  3. Ballistic panels wrap the wearer.
  4. They can be worn for the whole day.
Additionally, armored clothes can be mixed and matched with regular clothes to use the benefits of those as well. If you are wearing something like an armored hoodie, you can wear a regular jacket over it for the utility of that jacket. There are now several options for sale when it comes to armored clothing. You can buy anything from a T-shirt to a full ballistic winter jacket for a reasonable price.

How Armored Clothing Works?

Covert armored clothing is a brilliant solution for keeping body armor invisible and easy to wear. Instead, if your bulletproof vest being worn beneath your regular shirt, hoodie, or jacket, it will be installed inside the apparel itself. As soft body armor is relatively light and quite flexible, there is little difference between how regular and armored clothes behave. Also, with the two combines, you are losing a lot of redundant material, making the whole setup lighter and easier to carry. Due to that lightness, the area of protection is also much wider. Products like the AH, APV, or APJ have an area of protection up to five times larger than a classic plate carrier. This will both increase your overall protection and remove the risk when being caught by surprise by the enemy. The outer shell, meaning the piece of the armor that is the actual clothes, isn’t ballistic and acts just as it would normally. It is fairly soft and made from the same materials as designer clothes. As the price of the clothing becomes minuscule compared to the armor, there is no reason why not to invest in better and softer materials. And, if you ever get hit, the ballistic material inside will act as if you are wearing a regular vest. A round would penetrate the outermost lining of the garb, but get caught by the ballistic fibers and prevent further penetration. With protection levels going up to NIJ Level IIIa, these clothes will stop anything up to a .44cal Magnum, which constitutes roughly 97% of all firearm assaults in the United States.

Benefits of Covert Armored Clothing

When you combine all of the advantages armored clothes have compared to mixing regular clothes and covert armor, you can see the main two benefits of wearing them. These are protection and appearance. As protection levels can be found in other types of armor, both with internal and external carriers, the benefit of appearance becomes even more prominent. For one, you are not a target. Wearing external body armor is often easier because you can take it on and off whenever you want. But, when wearing such armor in public you will become the first target of any perpetrator. Out of fear, they might shoot before even threatening you. But, when you are wearing something that looks like casual clothes, especially combined with concealed carry, you will have enough time to realize a threat and respond adequately.

Safety and Comfort

Staying protected and keeping yourself comfortable are two sides of the same coin. If your body armor is cozy and something you can wear every day, you will never want to leave your home without it.  In some ways, pieces like the armored hoodie or T-shirt are even more comfortable than their non-ballistic counterparts. An armored jacket is also very warm, and possibly has better thermal protection than similar-looking plain clothes. Finally, when you feel good you will act faster, father increasing your safety. It is a self-feeding loop and there is no reason why you shouldn’t try benefiting from it.
